Tesla Cybertruck Sales Fell Faster Than Any Other EV in 2025

What The Cox Automotive Data Shows

Cox Automotive reports Cybertruck sales of 38,965 units in 2024, followed by 20,237 units in 2025, a decline of 48.1 percent and a loss of 18,728 units year over year. The slide steepened at the end of the year, with fourth quarter sales falling from 12,991 in 2024 to 4,140 in 2025, down 68.1 percent. On a volume basis this drop stands out against other EV models, because the Cybertruck was moving meaningful numbers before momentum reversed.

The Cybertruck remains a highly distinctive product, but that distinctiveness can narrow the pool of buyers once early adopters are satisfied. Visibility of real world compromises has also increased, especially in harsh weather. When a vehicle relies heavily on novelty and presence, issues that feel small on paper can carry outsized weight in shopper perception, particularly as competition improves and incentives elsewhere pull attention away.

Safety And Technology Signals Are Mixed

The sales decline does not mean the Cybertruck is failing every test that matters. It has earned strong safety recognition, after months of debate about its structure and materials. Driver assistance also remains a pillar of the Tesla pitch, with owner anecdotes reinforcing that point.

Even so, strong safety results and attention grabbing technology do not automatically translate into sustained demand when pricing, usability, and public perception pull in different directions.

Tesla’s big task now is to keep sales steady without just counting on the buzz. For the broader electric vehicle market, this is a wake-up call that while having a unique product can spark a lot of interest, lasting success really hinges on how practical it is for everyday use.
