Lamborghini Wants To Get Crazier With Even More Surprising Special Editions

  • Lamborghini wants to create more surprising special editions.
  • The Huracán Sterrato was well-received, so more extreme models are being plotted.
  • V12 supercars and SUVs could get similarly wild upgrades to Sterrato and STO.

Lamborghini has always been the poster child for extremism, and the Sant'Agata-based automaker intends to lean into that wild personality more heavily in the near future. Speaking with Autocar, Lamborghini's sales and marketing boss, Federico Foschini, said that, as unexpected and wild as the Huracán Sterrato was, it didn't fully explore the possibilities for the brand. Despite this, it was enormously well-received, and that has given Lamborghini the impetus to explore surprising and crazy ideas further and with more models, with the STO and Sterrato labels providing "opportunities that are immense," according to the executive. "I think that we even didn't leverage enough on the opportunity, because you can do a lot of stuff with the Sterraro; and I think that in the future, for sure, we can introduce a certain moment in time this opportunity," said Foschini.

Lamborghini Wants New Special Editions To Surprise

The executive went on to hint that the Sterrato flavor could be sprinkled on more models in the future, saying, "We know that this is ready; the market is there," adding that Lamborghini just has to execute it. "We don't only want to upgrade, we want to surprise," said Foschini, and those surprising special editions are unlikely to be restricted to only the Temerario "entry-level" supercar, with the V12-powered Revuelto flagship and the high-riding Urus SUV also being considered for unexpected special treatment. If the raised Huracáan Sterrato was surprising, perhaps the way to achieve the same with the Urus would be to lower it and turn it into a limited-edition two-door, or maybe even add another axle and a truck bed like the Mercedes-AMG G 63 6x6. Who knows?

"We are always looking for crazy things in all dimensions," said Foschini. "For example, with the Urus, we went to Pikes Peak. We also presented an Urus just for racing. But sometimes, our concepts are becoming a reality."

Exclusivity Remains Key To Lamborghini's Success

The most recent special edition from Lamborghini, the Fenomeno, is limited to only 29 examples. Approximately 700 examples of the Huracán STO are estimated to have been produced, while the Huracáan Sterrato was limited to 1,499 units. Thus, we can expect future special editions from the Sant'Agata stable to be produced in limited numbers too. "We want to keep the exclusivity," said Foschini. The only question is, how does Lamborghini surprise the world when it's always been known for creating crazy cars? An off-road Revuelto? An Urus for racing? Time will tell.
