The Results Are Stunning
Bentley is always looking to push the limits of hand craftsmanship, and sometimes one exquisite paint finish isn't enough. The automaker debuted its Ombré color-fade paint finish on a Continental GT coupe at Monterey Car Week last month, using a time-consuming process to create a fade effect that meets its high standards.

Now Bentley is showing that this paint finish looks equally good on the Flying Spur sedan. The first four-door to get the Ombré finish will be displayed in the United Kingdom at the Southampton International Boat Show, but customers can also order their own in one of three color combinations. Just bear in mind that Bentley charges a cool $68,000 for the privilege.
Complex Paint Process

This car is finished in light Topaz Blue at the front, fading to darker Windsor Blue at the back. Other options for customers include Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame and Tungsten to Onyx. Bentley limits the number of combinations to ensure a gradual transition between the two colors, avoiding any interaction between the two chosen hues that could create a third color in the middle of the car. For example, yellow and blue could mix to form green, rather than symmetrically fading from one to the other.

Whatever color combination is chosen, the paint cross takes nearly 60 hours, according to Bentley. Two paint technicians start by spraying the individual colors at the front and rear of the car, and continuing in stages toward the center. For that part of the car, paints with different tints are used. Each paint color behaves differently on application, and is being hand-applied, so every car will be unique, Bentley notes.
Inviting Customers To Get Creative

Bentley
Like rivals Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Maybach, Bentley is emphasizing personalization as a way to keep customers coming back—and spending even more money on bespoke options. The automaker recently launched a new Mulliner Bespoke Studio color palette with eye-catching colors like Candy Pink, as well as an array of new interior options. Bentley claims 70% of its customers specify at least one personalized Mulliner element, such as paint, exterior trim, or interior materials. The elaborate Ombré color fade gives those customers a stunning new option to ponder.
